Love Locks, Coolangatta

Rainbow Beach, Coolangatta, April 2017

When one thinks of ‘love locks’ it is traditionally Paris that springs to mind. Certainly the love lock phenomena over there has become such an issue that authorities have had to put the kibosh on it. Personally, it’s something I’ve never quite understood the symbology of. If anything, I’d see it as a bad omen rather than a good one. But anyway, while in Coolangatta over the Easter break, I noticed that locals and tourist of the Gold Coast have started taking it upon themselves to start a love lock tradition in Australia. I thought this was a very curious take on the Parisian original.
